Walking vacation in africa - can we walk from tree hotel in aberdares kenya

We are booked a group safari on an offer price ( a very big mistake) with 1 night stay at a Treehotel in the Aberdares . Further reading on the tree hotel, it is a mass tourism place. Do you think we can use the day for a walking vacation in the Aberdares and only go to the tree hotel for overnight? Would there be extra costs on this, since we would still be in the Aberdares park?
