Kenya Photo Safaris in Masai Mara

Ontdek Kenya crafts unique Kenya photo safaris that have quality time for serious photo exploration. We use our experience gained since '96 to arrange nature based photo safaris that have maximum time in the field and minimal road transfers. We will also keep you away from mass tourism in a tour that is very relaxed. Our wildlife photo safaris are customized and we give a brief of our favorite photo areas so that you can mix and match to suit your subject interests and safari duration. See our photo safaris page for details on how we work.

PHOTO SAFARI IN MASAI MARA

Kenya photo safari in Masai Mara.

Masai Mara is the Africa that every nature photographer dreams of, with elephants, buffaloes, wildebeests, lions, leopards, cheetahs, topis and hippos as main subjects for photography. To appreciate the riches of Masai Mara and to capture it in your photography work you should stay here for a longer period than the 2-3 nights of the standard safari packages.

There are game-filled open savanna plains, riverine forests, meandering rivers full of crocodiles and hippos, so on your Kenya photo safari, we will keep you in the field long enough to have a good photo session.

Wildlife viewing in Mara is an all year-round affair and not restricted to the July-September period of the wildebeest migration. Yes, the migration is nature's drama that is so well choreographed and very exciting to see but its timing is not an exact science - no one knows what triggers the leading animal to put its feet in the water and more so when it will do so. To tie down your Kenya photo safari to the wildebeest migration can be disappointing if your visit, even with the best planning, does not coincide with the animals crossing the river.

But the good news, as your plan your Masai Mara photo safari, is that there is a permanent resident population of wildebeests and plains game, always in the Mara plains throughout the year. The big cats , which by nature are territorial, are also permanently there defending their corners. You will possibly see a wide variety of game in Mara outside the migration period as most animals, especially elephants, move out with the high stress of the wildebeest "invasion".

To break the days of vehicle game drives we include soft walking safaris in the rolling hills and grasslands, out of the park boundaries where you will have close encounters with gazelles, zebras and giraffes. A visit to a Masai Village adds a cultural dimension to your photography.

We recommend a minimum of 4 -5 nights for a Masai Mara photo safari. To give a contrast of subjects in your Kenya photo safari combine Mara with the Rift Valley lakes.
