Good and accurate wild bird identification is a culture as well as a field science that one has to learn and it is a skill that a birder get maximum value from a bird watching holiday. To make it easier and enjoyable, especially for beginner bird watchers, it is important that one treats identification as a qualitative exercise that, if properly learnt, is transferable from one birds species to another and also from locale to another.
