how will I log in birds during my bird watching tour in Kenya

by Sally
(Denver CO)

I like to keep a log of birds seen during a bird watching holidays. What type of birding logs should I expect on a Kenya bird watching holiday.

blog on Kenya bird watching
by: Avi Sabavala

Kenya is a great country for birding & watching mammals. I preferred to carry my field guide the all popular "Birds of Kenya & Northern Tanzania" by Dale A.Zimmerman & others. Took plenty of birds pictures and then prepared a blog. Do visit it at the following link : http://kenya-avi.blogspot.com/

happy birding & do let me know your birding experience at asabavala@gmail.com

Keeping birds records on Kenya birdwatching safari
by: Anne Huysman , Ontdek Kenya

Long after your Kenya birdwatching safari is over, your birds record or log taken on the vacation will be a treasured and a priceless item.

Expect your bird watching tour operator to give you a printed copy of a checklist of Kenyan birds with columns for bird species, date and site of the sighting , number of birds seen- usually an estimate . Other details that may be included in the birds log are sound ( call) , plumage etc.

I find it hardy to have a blank page on the birds logging field book , where I can scribble my own notes which I can later use for reference or for writing Kenya birding tour reports.

With good bird logs from the field then you can transfer the information to an electronic bird info data base.

Should you bring your computer to do the logging when on the birdwatching safari? This is a personal preference but I would recommend you work with printed birds checklist in the field and transfer the date post-tour.

For a consultation on birdwatching holidays in Kenya contact Ontdek Kenya Safaris. We have been on the Kenya birding trails since '96.
