Faith Based Travel

12 Days Kenya Faith & Volunteering Safari

On our faith based travel you step behind the tourism line and interact with Kenyan communities that are writing the new history of church and believers in Africa. Let go; take part in daily acts of faith that will challenge and enrich your spiritual journey and give hope to someone in real need.

Ontdek Kenya Safaris, a specialist of authentic nature journeys since ’96 has extensive connections with Kenyan communities / churches of various denominations. We can arrange all-round faith based travel for your church group covering community services such as education, food security, health, sanitation, environmental conservation and worship in local churches.

Our faith based travel gives you an opportunity to spend your time in Kenya sharing your faith with other believers, communities and also have free time for wildlife viewing in the Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara to appreciate God’s creations while bonding with your church members.

Day 1: Nairobi

Arrival at the airport at night and reception by Ontdek Kenya. Transfer from the airport to a local church guest house.

Day 2 - 4: Karatina. O/N Starbucks Hotel

A 3 hrs transfer takes you to Karatina in Central Kenya, home of the Kikuyu tribe. You will drive through the main farming areas of Kenya with a lot of coffee and pineapple plantations.

Check in at the local hotel and after lunch visit a local children’s home – which is the base for the volunteering work.

Day 5: Faith Based Travel in Kenya: School visit. O/N Starbucks Hotel

Visit a church sponsored school for the hearing impaired. Possible volunteering activities are painting classes and/or dorms.

Day 6: Rift Valley, Crescent Island Walk. O/N Sawela Lodge or equivalent

Transfer to the Rift Valley. Check in at Sawela Lodge, on the shore of Lake Naivasha, in time for lunch. This recently opened lodge has beautiful grounds and lawns.

In the afternoon we do our first African game-viewing walk at the privately owned Crescent Island, which is a peninsula on the Eastern shore of Lake Naivasha. There is a lot of easy to see game e.g. giraffes, waterbucks, elands, zebras and impalas. It is also a heaven for birds with +200 species recorded. We return to the lodge in time for afternoon tea.

Day 7: Lake Nakuru National Park. O/N Sawela Lodge or equivalent

A day to see flamingos, rhinos, buffaloes and possibly cats at the Lake Nakuru national park.

Full day at the park. Overnight at Sawela Lodge.

Day 8: School visit + Crater Lake game Sanctuary. O/N Sawela Lodge or equivalent

Visit a local school in the morning. Volunteering opportunities are making donations of e.g. desks, writing materials or painting classes.

Afternoon visit Crater Lake game conservancy where we are likely to see giraffes, black and white Colobus monkeys, elands and a range of gazelles.

Day 9: to Masai Mara. O/N Mara Leisure Tented Camp

To see the best of Kenyan wildlife, Masai Mara is the place to be. Elephants, rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, gazelles and all the big cats are found here. So, after breakfast we start our journey passing through Narok Town, a colorful Masai town.

Our game viewing does not actually start at the park gate. We will be able to see many animals along the way grazing side by side with the Masai livestock. We reach the tented camp or lodge, our home for the next three days, in time for lunch.

Day 10 + 11: Masai Mara. O/N Mara Leisure Tented Camp

These are our cultural and activity days in Masai Mara. We do a morning game drive through the park and hike to a Masai manyatta (=homestead). Here we will see how the typical Masais live. An afternoon game drive makes the day complete.

On day 11 we do a morning and an afternoon game drive. We break from the driving with an optional walk in a natural area with rolling hills and grasslands, out of the park boundaries.

Day 12: Kiambethu Tea Farm + to Nairobi for outbound flight

The faith based travel ends with a lunch at the Kiambethu Tea Farm. This is an old colonial home established by the early settlers and the pioneers of tea growing in Kenya. There will be a talk on tea: its arrival in Kenya, the growing, processing and up to when you put it into your cup. A short hike in the tea plantation and into a small remaining part of indigenous forest completes the tour. We have a healthy farm lunch and thereafter transfer to Nairobi for the evening flight out.

Itinerary and accommodation changes may be made due to local conditions beyond our control.

INCLUDED: all accommodation as per itinerary, all meals from breakfast of day 2 through lunch of day 12, all transport Nairobi-Nairobi and airport transfers, bottled water during the walks, services of guides, park entrance and itinerary listed activity fees and a Flying Doctors Evacuation cover.

NOT INCLUDED: donations for volunteering work, airfare to Kenya, airport taxes, visa, insurance, drinks, tips, expenditure of personal nature and activities not listed in the itinerary.
