Kenya Eco Safari

7 Days ecotour in Kenya's Rift Valley (Page 1/2)

A quality eco safari with lots of game, birds and scenic walks in areas that are not visited by mass tourism. With minimal road transfers, this is a tour that gives you maximum time in the field.

You start by hiking along Lake Elementaita and visiting the prehistoric archeological site of Kariandusi, where stone tools are on display. Lake Nakuru is colored pink with thousands of flamingos and Lake Naivasha has a huge population of hippos. This eco safari has hikes in the savannas in Hell’s Gate, Crater Lake and Crescent Island that are all home to plains game such as baboons, giraffes, elands, zebras, various gazelles and warthogs. We handle all tour logistics leaving you free to enjoy your vacation. Read more about Ontdek's approach to responsible travel.

ITINERARY OF THE 7 DAYS ECO SAFARI

Day 1. Nairobi

Arrival at the airport at night and reception by Ontdek Kenya. Transfer from the airport to the Nairobi Safari Club or equivalent hotel in Nairobi.

Day 2. Ecotour in Kenya: Lake Elementaita

After breakfast there's a briefing by the guide about the tour. By 8.30 a.m. we leave Nairobi via the Nakuru road to the Rift valley. The Nairobi - Nakuru road is on a contour along the rim of the Rift valley and on a viewpoint we will be able to see our whole route for the tour.

We arrive in time for lunch at the recently opened Sunbird Lodge where we'll stay for 2 nights. This small and luxurious lodge is built on a cliff overlooking Lake Elementaita and all the surrounding hills. The panorama is unmatched. Sunbird is not just a place to overnight, it's a place for total relaxation.

Elementaita may not have the big name of Lake Nakuru but its scenic beauty is unmatched. A short descent takes us to the shores of the alkaline lake. We will stop on the way to look at the numerous birds and to enjoy the landscape. To wear off the jet lag we keep this walk relatively short.

After returning to the lodge there's an optional visit to the nearby Kariandusi prehistoric site, a site first discovered by Louis Leakey.
