using trekking/hiking poles on walking safaris.

Trekking poles help to reduce the pressure on your knees joints caused by the impact of hiking. Figuratively, the hiking poles extend your arms and shoulder muscles so that they help in supporting your weight as you walk. If you are walking for long distances , trekking poles help to keep a good circulation of blood on your hands and prevent your hands from swelling.

Though there is a attendance to use hiking poles on steep terrain, they are also hardy on flat terrain mainly to keep balance.

When crossing small brooks or swamps walking poles are a big asset as you can test how deep the water is or how firm the ground underneath is.

With the above if you feel comfortable using hiking poles, it really does not matter where you are walking; in your state or an exotic walking destination like Africa . You need them, you should have them with you.

The down side of using walking poles in an African walking safari is there is a lot to see and to take pictures; from birds , scenery , animals , and local tribal people. Your walking poles may be cumbersome every time you want to use your binoculars or camera.

To wrap up if hiking for you is incomplete without hiking poles by all means bring your set to the African walking safari.
